BOURBON STREET BOPPING SINCE: 2003
New Orleans has had its troubles, but its spirit will live on forever if Skip Jones and his band have anything to say about it. Jones, a piano player partial to roots blues, barrelhouse piano and Nawlins’ R&B, has made it his mission to keep the music alive for future generations.
"As time marches on, the tendency is for music to splinter into many factions," Jones said. "But Eugene is quite rich with musicians who carry on traditions. I feel quite blessed and supported here."
Like many musicians, Jones dabbles in a number of styles and flavors, but always returns to his favorites: Fats Domino, Doctor John, James Booker, Allen Toussaint, and Professor Longhair. "Our shows are like a blues travelogue, but we always return to our base camp in New Orleans."
Jones can be seen at the Rooster Blues Jam at Mac’s Restaurant in Eugene every Tuesday night at 6:30 pm. You can catch Skip &/or Spirit of New Orleans line up in the local listings.
