The tunes of singer-songwriter Jon Stinnett seek out the places where power and beauty intersect, where rock grooves meet the plaintive earnestness of soul classics, with a bit of country mixed in to bring it all back downhome. Like generations before him, Stinnett looked to the west for inspiration as a young man, settling in the quintessential small town of Cottage Grove, Oregon in 2007. He soon found a kinship among the drifters drawn to its quirky, historic downtown and gathered musical pals together to form rock outfit Anticipate Pie. At its best, the band drew comparisons to the early energy of Buffalo Springfield, the Kinks and others. Life pulled the group apart after several years’ performing in their hometown and beyond, after which Stinnett took an even sweeter direction, founding’ Flies with Honey, a band dedicated to the inherent power of positivity, in 2013. Through several iterations of both groups, he’s continued to craft and perform songs that seek to broaden his own understanding of this crazy life we all call home and connect with the other seekers around him.
